One would have thought that at least one or two events were a bit dodgy. But as you know I scoured the actual criminal records and looked at all the cases involving the Kelly family and didnt see anything there that looked like corruption or persecution.

In the interview Ned gave to Gaunson in the Beechworth Gaol in August 1880 Gaunson asked Ned for examples of the persecution and harassment Ned talked about and all Ned could come up with was the time Lonigan grabbed him by the balls! He also claimed his drink was drugged, and only when he was pressed by Gaunson did he start to talk about the Fitzpatrick affair.

So I think its pretty clear as I say in the post Neds complaints of having been picked on were just the usual whinging from a crook who got caught out.Deehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14104818673788818740noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2798312463652733622.post-45851012038137613462018-03-26T13:01:53.839+11:002018-03-26T13:01:53.839+11:00A Royal Commission run by what ever side of Govern...A Royal Commission run by what ever side of Government will always select commissioners in the hope their findings are favourable to those in power.

The teacher you refer to was James Wallace. He represented his community of at least fifty student families in the district, that he cared a lot for as he saw their plights trying to make a living off their land, land that was easily taken from them.

The only winners were those that could continue to benefit from land acquisition scams much like today's high end of town and their representative politicians all taking advantage of Negative Gearing on properties and tax breaks. All at the expense of lowly paid workers who can't get into the housing market today because of the pollies greed.

To get a true picture politics in those turbulent times should read Steve Hodder's article 'Ned Kelly: Villain or Victim' published in Dubbo Photo News Sept 2014.

http://www.ironicon.com.au/ned-kelly-villain-or-victim.htm
Bill - re Villain or Victimhttp://www.ironicon.com.au/ned-kelly-villain-or-victim.htmnoreply@blogger.com
